Who is eligible for BayREN Home+ rebates and services?
BayREN Home+ is available for detached single-family homes and 2-4 unit buildings that receive PG&E service and were built after 2011 in the nine Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma.
Why are BayREN Home+ services being offered to me? Is this a sales tool?
BayREN Home+ provides assistance and incentives for home improvement projects that can reduce energy use and make homes more comfortable. This is not a sales tool. It’s part of BayREN’s regional-scale effort to reduce carbon emissions and promote healthy, energy-efficient buildings and homes.
How is my local government involved?
BayREN Home+ is implemented by local governments to help residents in the nine Bay Area counties improve their homes with energy-saving upgrades. This program is managed locally by regional energy networks and directed by the California Public Utilities Commission in collaboration with the California Energy Commission.
If I contact a Home Energy Advisor, am I committing to anything?
There’s no commitment when you contact a Home Energy Advisor. Advisors will listen to your efficiency-related concerns, answer questions and discuss professional or do-it-yourself opportunities that are most likely to improve comfort, reduce fuel consumption, and increase the efficiency of your home. Energy Advisors help decipher and determine what upgrades are most likely to meet your needs and also meet your budget.
Are Home Energy Advisors always free, and do they come to my house?
Energy Advisors provide unlimited phone and email consultation at no charge to homeowners, property managers, and tenants. The advisor does not visit your house but can help you set up a comprehensive home energy assessment with a participating contractor.
Do I need to work with a participating contractor to qualify for rebates?
Yes. BayREN Home+ participating contractors have completed extensive training in building science, combustion safety, and program requirements. They’re also licensed, bonded, insured, and subject to quality assurance reviews so you can be confident in the high quality of their work.
What if I want to use multiple contractors from the list? Do I have to only use one contractor?
It is possible to use multiple BayREN Home+ contractors for your project. However, you would need to select one main contractor who would submit all the required rebate paperwork for your project. Since some contractors prefer to only include their own work in the rebate submission, you should discuss this with your contractor prior to signing a contract.
What if I already completed an upgrade for my home before I heard about BayREN Home+?
Unfortunately, BayREN Home+ rebates do not apply retroactively. Any energy efficiency upgrades you have already completed for your home would not qualify.
I am interested in solar energy. Are there rebates available for that?
Energy efficiency and renewable energy go hand in hand. It makes sense to install energy efficiency improvements in your home before going solar. It can help reduce the size of the solar system needed to meet your energy requirements, reducing the upfront cost. Your Home Energy Advisor can help you get started and direct you to the right rebates and financing options.
What financing programs are available to help cover the remaining cost of my home improvement projects after the rebates?
Many different financing options are available. Contact a Home Energy Advisor to discuss financing options that meet your goals. Your Home Energy Advisor can put you in touch with a financing professional who can help you further evaluate your options.
